Dante Has Answers

Frequently asked questions, reluctantly approved by our Head of Quality Control

Ordering something online can raise questions. Shipping, sizing, personalisation, returns, or whether Dante personally inspects every parcel.

He doesn’t. He mostly supervises from a comfortable distance.

But we’ve gathered the useful answers below anyway. Tap a question to open the answer.

About Byrne Studio

Who is behind Byrne Studio?

Byrne Studio is run by us, Seb and David, from our little corner of the Netherlands. There is no enormous warehouse or mysterious team of fifty people behind the website. It is just the two of us, a laptop, far too many ideas and Dante, our self-appointed Head of Quality Control.

What do Eita! and Bora! mean?

They are two Brazilian Portuguese words that do a remarkable amount of work.

Eita! is what you say when something surprises, delights, shocks or worries you, sometimes all at once. Bora! is a very Brazilian way of saying “Let’s go!” or “Are we doing this?”

Seb is Brazilian, so both are everyday vocabulary around here. They also gave their names to his books, Bora! and Eita!, funny, story-led introductions to Brazilian Portuguese and the culture behind it. Because learning the words is useful, but understanding what Brazilians actually mean is where things become interesting.

You can find both books on Amazon: Seb Byrne’s author page.

Some feelings simply require fewer letters. Others apparently require an entire book.

Who is Teddy O’Broin?

Teddy O’Broin is our distinguished bear with expensive taste, impeccable manners and opinions nobody asked for. His name is a playful nod to Ó Broin, the Irish form behind the surname Byrne.

He wears a monocle because apparently ordinary judgement was not formal enough.

Is Dante a real dog?

Very. Dante is our rescued Lurcher and the studio’s Head of Quality Control. He supervises samples, packaging and most creative decisions from a strategically comfortable position.

Where are your products made?

Our 3D-printed pieces are designed, made and packed by us in Andijk, the Netherlands. Products that need specialist equipment, such as our printed clothing, are made and dispatched by trusted production partners.

Whichever route your order takes, you are always buying from Byrne Studio. If you need help, you speak to us.

Are your products made to order?

Most of them are. Instead of filling a warehouse with products and hoping somebody eventually wants them, we make or print your piece because you chose it. This creates less unnecessary stock, but it also means your order needs a little production time before it can begin its journey to you.

Can I request something completely custom?

Possibly. We love a good idea, particularly one with personality. Send us a message explaining what you have in mind and we will let you know whether it is something we can create. Custom work depends on the product, complexity and available production time.

Do you accept bulk, business or corporate orders?

Yes, depending on the product and quantity. Contact us before ordering and tell us what you need, how many you are considering and when you need them. We can then confirm availability, production time and pricing.

Can I visit the studio or collect my order?

Not at the moment. Byrne Studio is a home-based studio rather than a physical shop, so orders are placed online and delivered by our carriers. Dante is relieved. Unexpected visitors interfere with his schedule.

Orders and payment

How can I pay, and which currency will I be charged in?

Checkout currently supports major debit and credit cards, PayPal, Klarna, Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay. The exact options available can vary by country, currency, device and order.

Prices are displayed in the currency selected for your region where available, and checkout shows the currency and final amount before you pay. If your card or bank account uses a different currency, your provider may apply its own conversion rate or fee.

Can I send an order as a gift?

Yes. Enter the recipient’s delivery address at checkout.

We do not currently offer gift wrapping or printed gift messages. Please also be aware that the packing slip may show prices, so the current service is best described as “sent directly to them” rather than “mysteriously delivered by a perfectly organised gift department.” We are working on a better gifting option.

How do I know my order was successful?

You will receive an order confirmation by email after checkout. If it does not appear, check your spam or junk folder first. If it is still missing, contact us with the name and email address used for the order.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Contact us as quickly as possible at info@byrnestudios.com. Because our products move into production after an order is placed, we cannot guarantee that changes or cancellations will be possible once work has started.

Personalised products cannot be changed after you have approved the final artwork.

I entered the wrong delivery address. What should I do?

Email us immediately at info@byrnestudios.com with your order number and the correct address. We will update it if the order has not already been dispatched.

If an order is returned because the address supplied at checkout was incorrect or incomplete, the cost of sending it again will be the customer’s responsibility. Dante strongly recommends checking the postcode before pressing the button.

Why might items from the same order arrive separately?

Different products may be made and dispatched from different locations. For example, printed clothing is normally sent by our production partner, while our 3D-printed pieces are made and packed by us in Andijk. If your order contains both, they may arrive on different days.

Shipping and delivery

Where do you deliver?

Printed T-shirts travel much further. We currently deliver them to the European Union, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Brazil, Switzerland, Norway and many other countries. Checkout shows the destinations available for your order.

Our 3D-printed lamps and décor currently ship to European Union countries only. If you live elsewhere and have fallen in love with one, send us a message. We cannot promise international delivery yet, but we would still like to know where the interest is coming from.

Why can’t I check out with a lamp and a T-shirt?

Checkout can only complete an order if every item in your basket can be delivered to your address. If you are outside the European Union, remove the lamp and your T-shirt order should continue as normal.

How long will my order take?

Printed clothing normally takes 2 to 5 business days to produce before dispatch. Our 3D-printed products are individually made in Andijk and normally take approximately 5 to 10 working days to produce. The estimate shown on the individual product page is the best guide for that particular design.

Estimated delivery after dispatch:

  • Netherlands: 2 to 5 business days
  • Europe: 3 to 10 business days
  • Rest of the world: 5 to 20 business days

These are estimates rather than guarantees. Busy periods, carrier delays and customs processing can sometimes make a parcel take longer.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is calculated at checkout based on the products in your basket and the delivery destination. You will see the cost before completing payment.

In the Netherlands, orders of our 3D-printed products totalling €55 or more ship free.

How does free T-shirt shipping work?

We offer free standard shipping on qualifying T-shirt orders of €49 or more to the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States.

You can mix eligible T-shirt designs and collections to reach the threshold. Personalised pet T-shirts also ship free from €49 to the same countries, but they are counted separately from our other T-shirts. Checkout will confirm when your basket qualifies. Lamps and other 3D-printed products are not included in this offer and may have separate shipping charges.

Will I receive tracking information?

Yes, whenever tracking is available. We will email the details after your order has been dispatched. Tracking can sometimes take up to 24 hours to show its first update.

If an order contains products dispatched from different locations, you may receive more than one tracking email.

Why does checkout ask for my phone number?

Some carriers need a phone number for delivery updates, address queries or international and express shipments. Providing it can prevent avoidable delays. We use order contact details to process and deliver your purchase and to help if something goes wrong. You will not receive marketing text messages unless you separately choose to opt in.

Will I have to pay customs duties or import taxes?

Our 3D-printed pieces ship within the European Union only, so there are no customs charges on them.

Printed T-shirts are produced as close to you as possible, including in the EU, UK or US, so most orders arrive with nothing extra to pay. The production location can vary by product, availability and destination, so this cannot be guaranteed for every order.

For UK consignments worth more than £135, import VAT may be collected by the delivery company and Customs Duty may also apply. In other countries, import duties, taxes or carrier fees may apply and are the recipient’s responsibility.

What is the last order date for Halloween or Christmas delivery?

Seasonal cut-off dates change each year and depend on the product and destination. We publish the current dates on the website or our social channels once carriers and production partners confirm them.

Order as early as possible. Personalised pet T-shirts need an additional 2 to 4 business days for us to prepare your proof before printing can begin, and delays in approving the proof will move the delivery estimate.

What should I do if my parcel has not arrived?

Check the tracking link first, including any delivery attempt or collection-point information. If your order has not arrived within 30 days of the estimated delivery date, email info@byrnestudios.com with your order number. We will investigate with the carrier or production partner and arrange the appropriate next step.

T-shirts and sizing

What are the T-shirts made from?

Most of our standard graphic and personalised T-shirts use a soft, lightweight unisex garment made from 100% combed and ring-spun cotton. Heather colours contain polyester, and the typical fabric weight is approximately 142 g/m².

The Teddy O’Broin shirts use a classic midweight unisex T-shirt made from 100% cotton in the solid colours currently offered. All shirts are printed to order by our specialist production partner. Because the exact garment can differ between collections, always check the product page for the fabric, fit and care details that apply to your chosen design.

Are your T-shirts unisex?

Most of our current T-shirts have a comfortable unisex fit. Check the individual product description and size guide before ordering, as sizing can vary slightly between styles.

How do I choose the right size?

Use the size guide on the product page and compare its measurements with a T-shirt you already own and like the fit of. Do not rely only on the size name, as measurements can differ between brands. If you are between sizes or prefer a looser fit, choosing the larger size is usually the safer option.

How should I care for a printed T-shirt?

To help the garment and artwork last:

  • Wash it inside out with similar colours
  • Use a cool or gentle wash cycle
  • Do not use bleach
  • Avoid tumble drying where possible
  • Do not iron directly over the printed artwork
  • Follow the care label inside the garment

Dante accepts no responsibility for T-shirts left within reach of dogs.

Will the colour look exactly the same as it does on my screen?

We do our best to show colours accurately, but screens display colour differently. The finished garment, print or filament may therefore vary slightly from what you see on your phone or computer.

Personalised pet T-shirts

How does a personalised pet T-shirt order work?

Choose your T-shirt colour, size and design, upload one to three clear photographs of your pet, and enter their name exactly as you want it to appear.

We will create the artwork and send you a digital proof within 2 to 4 business days. Nothing is printed until you approve the design.

How long does a personalised pet T-shirt take in total?

Allow 2 to 4 business days for your digital proof. Once you approve it, printing normally takes another 2 to 5 business days before dispatch. Delivery time is added after that and depends on the destination.

Approving your proof quickly is the easiest way to keep the order moving. Dante cannot approve it on your behalf, despite his title.

What kind of photograph should I upload?

Choose a sharp, well-lit photograph in which your pet’s face, markings and expression are clearly visible. Natural light and an uncluttered background usually give the best result.

Please avoid screenshots, heavily filtered photographs, very dark images, blurred pictures and images downloaded from social media where possible. You can upload up to three photographs of the same pet so we have the best possible reference.

Will the finished artwork look exactly like my photograph?

The finished design is an illustrated interpretation rather than an exact photographic reproduction. We use your photographs to capture your pet’s recognisable markings, expression and personality while adapting them to the selected design.

Can I include more than one pet?

Our current personalised pet T-shirt listing is designed for one pet. If you would like something featuring more than one, contact us before ordering and we will tell you whether a custom version is possible.

Can I change the design after I see the proof?

Yes, within reason. One reasonable revision is included. This covers a sensible adjustment to the artwork rather than changing the original photograph, pet or selected concept completely. If more extensive work is requested, we will discuss any additional cost with you before continuing.

Please check the pet’s name, spelling and all artwork carefully. Once the final proof has been approved and production has started, further changes will not be possible.

What happens to the photographs I upload?

Your photographs are used to create and fulfil your order. We will not use them for advertising or social media without asking you separately. By uploading an image, you confirm that you own it or have permission to use it.

3D-printed lamps

Are the lamps made by you?

Yes. Our 3D-printed lamps are individually produced by Byrne Studio in Andijk, the Netherlands. They are made to order in the colourway or personalised configuration selected on the product page.

What are the lamps made from?

They are 3D-printed from PLA and PLA+ filament, including translucent PLA where the design calls for it. Exact materials and product information can be found in each listing.

What is included, and how is the lamp powered?

Each lamp includes a USB-powered, cool LED light and a USB cable. Connect the cable to a suitable USB wall adapter, computer port or USB power bank. A wall adapter is not included. Please check the individual listing for the exact contents before ordering.

Are visible lines or tiny variations normal?

Yes. A 3D printer builds an object one layer at a time, so fine layer lines and small variations are a natural part of the process. They are not normally defects. They are evidence that your piece was individually produced rather than taken from a mass-manufactured mould.

Are the lamps toys?

No. They are decorative indoor lamps, not toys. Keep the lamp, USB cable and any removable or small components away from babies and small children. An adult should position and operate the lamp in a safe, dry place.

Can I use another bulb or a candle?

No. Only use the cool LED light supplied or a replacement specifically approved for the product. Never use candles, incandescent bulbs or any other heat-producing light source inside a 3D-printed lamp.

Can the lamps be used outdoors?

No. Unless a listing explicitly says otherwise, our lamps are decorative indoor products. Keep them away from rain, excessive moisture, open flames and strong heat.

How should I clean a 3D-printed product?

Switch off and unplug the light first. Gently remove dust with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use a dishwasher, submerge the product in water or clean it with strong chemicals. Avoid leaving it close to radiators, open flames or in prolonged direct sunlight.

Can I request a colour combination that is not listed?

Send us a message before ordering. If we have the colours available and the design allows it, we may be able to create a custom combination for you.

Personalised photo lamps

Which photographs work best for a lithophane lamp?

Use a sharp, high-resolution photograph with good lighting and a clearly visible subject. Portraits of people or pets usually work best when faces are not cropped and there is good contrast between the subject and background.

Avoid screenshots, very dark images, strong filters and photographs downloaded from social media where possible, as these often contain less detail.

Will the illuminated photograph be in colour?

No. The lithophane panel is produced in white. When illuminated, variations in thickness create the light, shadow and detail that reveal the photograph.

What happens if my photograph is unsuitable?

We will contact you and ask for an alternative image. Production will not begin until we have a photograph capable of creating a good result, so replying promptly will help avoid delays.

Can you crop or adjust my photograph?

We may make small adjustments to the crop, framing, brightness or contrast when necessary to create a better lithophane. We will not make major alterations or combine separate photographs unless this has been agreed as a custom order before purchase.

Returns and problems

Can I return something because I changed my mind?

Where mandatory consumer law provides a change-of-mind right, including for eligible non-personalised online purchases by consumers in the European Union and United Kingdom, you can normally tell us that you wish to withdraw from the purchase within 14 days of receiving it. You then have a further 14 days to send it back.

Please return the item in good condition. You are welcome to try or inspect it as you would in a shop, but if it has been handled beyond what was needed to check what it is and how it works, we may deduct any reduction in its value from your refund. You are responsible for the return postage unless the product is faulty, damaged or incorrect.

If the return is accepted, we refund the product price and the cost of our least expensive standard outbound delivery option, normally within 14 days of receiving the item back. Any additional amount paid for express delivery is not refundable.

Please email info@byrnestudios.com before returning anything. Do not send an item back without contacting us first, as we need to provide the correct return instructions. Please always contact Byrne Studio directly, not our production partner. A size or colour exchange is normally handled as a return followed by a new order, subject to the same eligibility rules.

We do not offer a voluntary worldwide change-of-mind return scheme beyond the rights required by law. Consumer rights vary by destination, and nothing in this policy limits any mandatory rights that apply to your purchase.

Can I return a personalised product because I changed my mind?

Personalised and genuinely customised products, such as our personalised pet T-shirts and photo lamps, are created specifically for you and cannot normally be returned or exchanged because of a change of mind, an incorrectly selected size or customer-provided spelling. This does not affect your rights if the item is faulty, damaged, misprinted or does not match the approved order.

What if my item arrives damaged, defective or incorrect?

Email info@byrnestudios.com as soon as you notice the problem, ideally within 30 days of receiving the order. This does not limit your statutory rights. Please include:

  • Your order number
  • A clear photograph of the problem
  • A brief description of what is wrong

If the problem is confirmed as an error on our part, we will arrange an appropriate replacement or refund at no cost to you. For printed T-shirts, please contact us rather than our production partner, and we will arrange the replacement or refund with them.

Do your products have a guarantee?

Your statutory rights under Dutch and European Union consumer law remain fully protected, including the applicable legal guarantee on goods. The guarantee does not cover accidental damage, misuse, normal wear, incorrect cleaning or using a lamp with an unsuitable heat-producing light source.

Still confused?

Seb and David are considerably better at answering messages than Dante.

Email us at info@byrnestudios.com and one of the humans will get back to you. We normally reply within two business days.

Dante may oversee the response. Quality control is important.
